Cake Smash sessions are LOTS of FUN! And this one with Bella from Cobham was no different. Bella’s was a bit older at 18 months old, but you are never too old for a a bit of fun, right?

All my cake smash photoshoots are an hour, purely because it gives me a bit of extra time to get to know the little one. Sometimes they can get quite overwhelmed by the enormous cake and all the props so it helps me to build the session up nicely from family photos to individual photos with introducing little props and eventually the cake! From experience I have found this slow build up to give the best results.

Although the shoot wasn’t in honour of Bella’s first birthday, as you can see she still really enjoys exploring the pink cake!

If you would ask me what I like best about the Cake Smash sessions it would be seeing the little children explore and trying and testing new textures and flavours. This session is not all about getting that smile, this is about so much more. Of course I will always do my best to get some natural smiles during any session, but with the cake smash you will see lots of different expressions on your little child’s face, from surprise, anticipation, discovery, wonder, happiness, amusement, to courage, pride, caution and confusion. It gives parents a wonderful opportunity to experience something new with thieer child all the while I am documenting the whole experience for lots of viewing fun in years to come...and there is no cleaning up for you to do either!

There is always lots of laughter from the parents in my studio who can often sit back and enjoy the show, at least for a bit.

And it doesn’t take long before..well...someone is getting stuck in...

And getting messier by the minute...

The Cobham girl definitely had lots of fun and is showing a touch of class with her pearls.

As part of my Cake Smash session I also offer a "clean up" bath time. Not only do lots of toddlers enjoy some bubbles, mums are often quite grateful too!

And of course more cute photos to be taken! There we are, as good as new...
