6 day old Sophia from Epsom

21 August 2015

It didn’t take 6 day old Sophia from Epsom too long to fall asleep in my magic basket for some great first shots. When there are siblings involved in the newborn shoot I make sure I don’t wait too long before I get them involved as you want to capture that initial excitement.

These sister were amazing though, by far the best behaved kids I have ever met! I normally suggest for dad or a relative to take the children out for a bit but these two amazing girls sat through the whole 3 hour shoot without much of a grumble…

I had already met the girls during their mums maternity shoot during which they were a bit shy, so I wasn’t quite sure if they needed a lot of warming up before taking the sibling photos but I think having met me before definitely helped them.

Although I think it’s very important for siblings to be involved in newborn shoots it does generally impact the number of shots I get of the newborn baby on her own as the focus slightly changes to the sibling group.  However, since everyone behaved so well I could get lots of newborn shots in as well as all the sibling shots.

What I see from most other newborn photographers is that this is where the session ends, white background for family images and blankets for the newborn. I go a step further and don’t only photograph families, sibling groups and newborn on a white background but also on a black background to create those intimate often skin-to-skin cuddly shots with mum and dad. They are one of the most popular photographs with new parents.

I personally think these photographs will even be more cherished over time as it shows the love and protective nature new parents have for their new baby as well as how small they really are in daddy’s arms.

This mum also really wanted a photograph of all her children’s feet which made a lovely final image for their newborn album.

If you would like to have beautiful photos taken of you and your newborn, get in touch to book your newborn session and view my newborn gallery for some more examples of my newborn photography. Or if you are pregnant or just had a baby why not join my photography for parents workshop to learn how to take your own beautiful photos of your newborn baby.
